This is an old coal conveyor in an abandoned power plant, which has been adorned with some rather ominous graffiti. At least it probably seemed ominous to the person who put it there. :)
And yes, all that shredded white stuff falling down from the pipes is indeed friable asbestos. Needless to say I didn't hand around here long.
It was too interesting a shot to pass up though...such wonderful textures!

Cool pic and all, but I am an old HVAC guy and can't help noticing that the vents on that conveyor are open. Meaning that in addition to the asbestos you are breathing in coal dust as well. Please tell me you were wearing a mask at least!
Hi Will!
Sorry about not getting your comment up sooner, I have not been checking in on the blog as I should and didn't see it until now.
No I was not wearing a mask, though some of us did.
If I were younger I would have, and certainly would if we were here frequently or for long periods of time, but because we spend such a short time in this place and are extremely careful not to disturb anything, I don't bother. The little exposure I get would take longer to become problematic for me than I need to worry about. One of the conveniences of getting old. :)
Thanks for your concern though, and thanks for visiting!
