Spring in full swing

It must be spring, as all the birds are busy building nests and then sitting on them diligently.  This mourning dove is no exception.  Spring is all about new life, and I encourage you to spend time outdoors to see it yourself.  Even if you live in the city, you don't have to miss it if you learn to recognize it for what it is.  Dandelions coming up in sidewalk cracks...that is new life as well!

April Showers bring....

...mosses and fungi.  :)

Took this two nights ago.  I went out because the fog was coming in and the moon was up.  I was hoping that the combination would lend itself to some good shots, but the timing of the two didn't work well until it was too dark.  So I did other things instead, including this.

I have been asked on more than one occasion if I always use tight focal planes.  The answer is no, but I do tend to favor them when shots have a singular defined subject, or multiple subjects in the same plane.  I do this because that is how your brain interprets the data being sent to it by your eyes, which makes for a more natural looking image, especially when you see them in person in larger formats than you do via computer.

I highly encourage people to visit art museums in person rather than just browsing galleries online for just that reason.  You are missing a very important element of the work if you are not seeing it first hand!

And now for something completely different....

Something surreal, and in square format.  Two things I don't do a lot of.
But it is the dead of winter, which for me means time to play around and have fun pushing all sorts of boundaries, my own included.
And at -25F believe me, boundaries are being pushed!
I am SO ready for spring!

Another one from Old Man Winter

Cold air, really cold air, can do things with light and color that from a visual perspective are quite striking.  Frozen water vapor droplets act as billions of little tiny prisms, dust particles clinging to that frozen vapor act as filters, and sometimes you end up with really pretty sunsets as a result.

I don't take a lot of sunset photos, as I think sunrises generally provide better light opportunities than sunsets, but this was an exception I thought worthwhile.

Water Lily

Haven't posted a flower in awhile, since the snow is falling here again I figured a little bit of color was in order.  Flowers are always good to symbolize the promise of a new year as well.  Here's hoping that good things bloom for all of you this year!

Already missing summer

It is almost as if we didn't even have an autumn here in West Michigan.  The leaves changed and moments later we were covered in snow!

So here is a photo that I took this summer to help regain a little warmth!  :)

I have always found trains to be very photogenic, mostly because of the geometry and what the angles do with light.  But add into the mix something as frivolous as beans and it just becomes irresistable.

Spring Forward, Fall Back

This month's photo is of a handsome grasshopper.  We are not seeing many of these around here anymore, now that the weather has turned cold.  I am always amazed at just how hairy most insects actually are if you look at them closely.

We are still working on the relocation, but the deal we thought we had with a buyer for this one ended up falling through when said buyer backed out.  So it may get put off until next spring/summer.

In the meantime, get outside and enjoy the wonderful outdoors while the bugs are down and the snow is still up!
